WHAT IS A TITLE DEED OF IMMOVABLE PROPERTY:

Title deed is a registered legal document that proves ownership of a specific piece of immovable property, such as land, a house, a flat or office.

Here are some key points about title deeds in South Africa:

  1. Proof of Ownership:   The title deed serves as the official proof that You Own the property.
  2. Registration:   It is registered at the Deeds Office and the Registrar of Deeds must sign the transfer to make it official.
  3. Conveyancer’s Role:   A conveyancer, who is a lawyer specializing in property transfers, assists in the transferring the title deed into the new owner’s name.
  4. Public Record:   The Deeds Office keeps a copy of the title deed and it is accessible to the public for information on property ownership, rules and conditions.
