Property Practitioners: [Estate Agents]
In South Africa, property practitioners refer to individuals or businesses involved in the property industry, as defined under the Property Practitioners Act No. 22 of 2019
They include individuals who, for gain, directly or indirectly, on behalf of another, engage in activities such as selling, purchasing, managing, leasing, or publicly exhibiting properties or business undertakings.
This term ‘property practitioner’ encompasses a wide range of roles, including:
- Estate Agents: Professionals who facilitate the buying, selling, and renting of properties.
- Property Managers: Individuals who manage rental properties on behalf of owners, including tenant relations, maintenance, and rent collection.
- Auctioneers: Specialists who conduct property auctions.
- Bond Originators: Agents who assist clients in obtaining mortgage financing for property purchases.
- Property Developers: Companies or individuals involved in developing real estate projects, from planning and construction to marketing and sales.
- Home Inspectors: Professionals who assess the condition of properties, often as part of the buying and selling process.
Property practitioners are required to comply with the regulations set out in the Property Practitioners Act, which includes requirements for licensing, ethical conduct, and consumer protection measures.
